Cyprus bans incandescent light bulbs
If you are using the traditional incandescent 100 watt light bulbs to light your mobile home then please take note that you will no longer be able to buy them in Cyprus.
On 1st September, the Cyprus Environmental Commissioner Charalambos Theopemptou announced that following a European Union directive, Cyprus has now banned the manufacture, import and sale of the traditional 100 watt incandescent and frosted lightbulbs. These should now be replaced with energy saving fluorescent light bulbs.
A ban will follow on 1st September 2010 of the 75 watt traditional light bulb, and 1st September 2011 will see the 60 watt bulb banned from import and sale, leaving the more expensive energy saving light bulbs as the only choice for consumers, however as they use just a quarter of the energy, they should be a long term saving. Once the full ban is in effect Cyprus hopes to see reduced emissions of carbon dioxide.
