The Cyprus government announced today that it is proposing several amendments to town planning legislation in order to ensure that around 130,000 title deed applications that have been snared in red tape will be issued as soon as possible.
This pledge was made by Interior Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis in a long over-due move to free up the backlog of title deeds snared in bureaucracy.
The new legislation would also enable the authorities to issue different types of title deeds to speed up the process. However, those deemed to have committed major infringements of town planning law will have restrictions placed on them such as selling the property while the matter is outstanding.
If and when the new scheme meets parliamentary approval the Interior Minister claims that around 20,000 deeds should be issued by June 2010.
